Dive Sites Located Near La Paz...

1.Salvatierra Wreck Dive-Novice in calm conditions. Depth 23’ to 57’  In 1976 this 300’ 
WWII Landing Ship Transport sank in Canal de San Lorenzo. It was being used as a ferry carrying a large number of trucks and trailers. Remnants of  these can be seen scattered over the sandy bottom. You will see a large number of fish hiding under the ship’s stern along with large groupers and morays. Sea fans and gorgonians cover the wreck dive. Good snorkeling site.

2. Isla Los Islotes- Novice with depths 20'  to 90’  A group of tiny islets with its main 
attraction beinga large colony of friendly sea lions. There is a swim through arch with fish and gorgnians covering the rock islet. The outer east end drops off  where you may spot pelagics.

3. El Bajo Sea Mount- Intermediate to Advance with depths 52’ to 130’.   Famous for
it’s schooling hammerheads, large pelagics, whale sharks and mantas sighting. Three underwater peaks array along a 300-yard line running northwest southeast. The northwestern peak rises to within 83’of the surface. The southeastern rises to 69’ and the central to 52’ of the surface. Currents can be strong and unpredictable.

4. Swanney Reef- Novice with depths 8' to 30'.  Reef  than sank the Salvatierra Wreck.  Nice coral and seafans with a variety of fish life.  Great site for snorkeling.

5. Caleta Partida Reef- Novice to Intermediate with depths shallow to 60'+.  This site has a most unusual underwater  terrain with sharp pinnicles and large boulders.  An excellent variety of fish life with chances of seeing mobulas, turtles, and pelegics.  Great for snorkeling.

6.  Isla Ballena- Novice with depths shallow to 40'+. Small grottos can be seen along the northern side of the Island with large groupers, cabilla and other pelegics.  Great for snorkeling.

7.  Fang Ming and Lappas III-  Novice to Intermediate with depths to 70'.  These two wrecks were sank in 2000.  They are both Chinese Longliners that were seized for illegal passage.  The Fang Ming is 300' long and is 50' high with huge holes cut in her  sides for divers to pass.  The Lappas III is 200' long.

8.  Candelario-  Novice with depths shallow to 40'+.  This small island offers a nice variety of tropicals with some pelegics on the reef extending out.  Great for snorkeling and doing a check out dive.

Points further South...

9..  Roca Montana- A pinnacle coming to within 7 foot of the surface lies about 1,200 yards south of 
the south eastern tip of the island Cerralvo. Crowded with invertebrates with a vast bed of garden eels. 

10.  La Reina- intermediate with depths. 20-70’. 4 miles north of Cerralvo a rocky 
pinnacle sticks out with a lighthouse. The waters are rich in marine life. You can Giant Mantas, sealions, large pelagics and tropicals. There is an old ship (wreck dive) “Mazatlan” that rests in 70’of water.

11.  Cerralvo South- Beginner to Intermediate with depths to 60'.  Reef extending out form the southern most tip.  Offers an excellent variety of tropicals with chances of pelagics and turtles.  

12.  Cerralvo South- Beginner to Intermediate with depths to 60'.  Large boulders are hiding grounds to many large groupers, cabrella and other pelagics.

12. Cabo Pulmo Reefs- Beginner to Intermediate depth shallow to 100’.  There are four finger reefs in this area. This area is a national marine park with no fishing within its boundaries.  There are numerous kinds of tropicals found in large schools. You have a chance of sighting turtles,  hammer heads, whale sharks, mantas, sea lions, lots of tropicals and much more. The reef is covered with a variety of corals and colorful invertebrates. Every nook and cranny has something living in it.

13. Los Frailes- Intermediate with depths shallow to 130’.   Covered with rocky formations and a canyon, which drops off to the deep. A chance of seeing rooster fish, marlin, sailfish, hammer-heads, mantas, whale sharks, sea lions and much more.

14. Gordo Banks- Intermediate with depths beginning at 110’ to130’.  Gordo is a seamount where you can see large marine life hammerheads, whale sharks, mantas, turtles, and much more. At the bottom there is black coral, gorgonians, sea fans and many species of fish.


Points to the North...

13.   Seal Rock-  Novice to Intermediate with depths shallow to 60'+.  Here you will find a large sealion colony.  Extending for the rock is a long reef with a most unusual terrain of sharp pointed pinnicles, large boulders and rocks with large cracks.  We have spotted just about everything here (large rays, pelegics, shells, mobulas, turtles, etc).

12.   Island Las Animas- Intermediate/Advance with depths shallow to 120’.. A remote island offering a variety of dive experiences from colorful invertebrates, caves, huge schools of jacks,  hammer-head, whale sharks, mantas and other pelagics. On the south side there is a seamount that is 45’ from the surface andcovered with sea fans and gorgonians. South of the seamount is a protruding sea lion rock. On the northwest side there are three pinnacles where you find tunnels.

10. Island Santa Cruz- Intermediate with depths shallow to120’. A remote island with boulders and ledges dropping at steep angles. An array of fish can be seen with chance of sighting hammer-head and other pelagics.

11. Island San Diego Reef- Novice/Experience except for caves depths shallow to 45’ . Intricate lava formations with grottos and excellent marine life. Chance for sightings of frogfish, nurse shark and tropicals like the guinea fowl puffer. The reef if filled with dramatic shapes and colors . Excellent night dive and snorkeling.
